Much of our youth work is based at Fullbrook School in New Haw. We run a variety of projects and activities.

The Interactive Zone
By Gareth Jones

The Interactive Zone (TIZ) is an after school club for both boys and girls from school years 7 and above. The youth club is open on a Thursday and we run 2 sessions, 4:30pm - 6:15pm for school years 7 and above and 7:15pm - 9pm for school years 9 and above.

The youth club is a safe environment where young people can come and meet their friends and play games, but it is also much more than that. Young people have difficult lives; they get labelled yobs and thugs by the media, they are excluded from some social circles, the peer pressure on them to do well in school, drink, smoke, take drugs is incredible. My passion is to help empower the lives of young people, help support and guide them, and to help them to make informed decisions about their actions that will affect them for the rest of their lives.

Some of the activities we run include computer games and internet, pool, table tennis, and a tuck shop. We run sessions where members can bring musical instruments. We run binge drinking and drug / smoking awareness seminars. We teach sound engineering, have art and craft activities, and video evenings. We have done a number of outings including laser quest, ice skating, paintballing, residentials. For the young people it is a place they can go to have fun; for me it is a place where young people can grow into well informed decisive confident people and learn social and life skills that just can't be taught in a school classroom.
